The iconic R1 midlayer
The Regulator line (the R1) was launched in 1990 and has remained a Patagonia staple since, undergoing minor alterations along the way.
Patagonia has iterated and evolved the R1 fabric over the years: The grid pattern, exclusive to Patagonia, creates loft with minimal fabric, staying lightweight and breathable.
The result is one of the best warmth-for-weight fabrics found anywhere. It’s lightweight and traps warmth (especially when layered), but can dump heat when you start to exert and overheat.
Tommy Caldwell made the first ascent of the Dawn Wall wearing one. Luke Nelson ran his first 100-mile race in an R1.
This year is the 20th anniversary of the R1.
